Gather To Remember

Choosing cremation rather than burial or entombment does not diminish the value of that wonderful life. A Remembrance Gathering is an opportunity for family and friends to share experiences that should be recognized and cherished. Think of all the things you should remember, the work and play, the interests, and above all, the people who were a part of it. Planning a Celebration of A Lifetime will provide meaning and lasting memories for everyone in attendance.

A Remembrance Gathering plays a significant role in our lives and is an essential component of the healing process. Gather to honor, remember and celebrate their history, personality and accomplishments.

For Those of The Christian Faith

Like all Christian worship, the Christian funeral service has both a vertical and a horizontal dimension. Taking a phrase from an old sacramental form, we attend a funeral to "remember and believe." At the Christian funeral we want and need to remember. The Christian funeral throbs with very human emotions and ought to both reflect them, & minister to them. The Christian funeral is, therefore, a public ritual in which grief is expressed, precious memories are rehearsed, and lifetimes are remembered.

For Those of Catholic Faith

The Catholic Church allows cremation but prefers traditional burial for spiritual reasons, with specific guidelines for cremated remains. The Church requires that cremated remains be kept together and interred or buried in a sacred place, such as a cemetery or columbarium. Scattering, dividing, or keeping cremated remains at home is not permitted, as it shows a lack of respect for the body and hinders the grieving and prayer process. While the funeral Mass is ideally celebrated with the body present, a memorial service with the cremated remains can be held if necessary.

Flying With Cremated Remains

TSA allows cremated remains as a carry-on. The container must pass X-ray screening, so it should be made of lightweight materials like wood or plastic. TSA officers will not open an urn out of respect.

X-Ray Friendly Materials: Your urn must be clearly scannable by the X-ray machine. Acceptable materials include wood, plastic, resin, or cardboard.

Materials to Avoid: Avoid metal, heavy stone, or ceramic urns. These generate an opaque image on the scanner, and if TSA cannot see inside, the urn will not be permitted through the checkpoint.
